Hi, I’m Taura J Greig
I build software systems that play well — games, tools, and full-stack platforms.
Software Engineer based in Auckland, NZ.
Engineer by trade. Systems thinker by instinct.

I build software with a game developer's mindset and an engineer's discipline. Over the past eight years, I've worked across games, AR/VR, and full-stack platforms, taking ideas from rough prototypes to shipped, production-ready systems.
I'm drawn to problems that require both technical depth and creative thinking — designing gameplay systems, building tools that empower other developers and artists, and engineering backends that quietly do their job well. I enjoy owning projects end-to-end, making sense of messy codebases, and turning complex requirements into clear, maintainable solutions.
Lately, I've been leaning more into research-driven work, exploring AI and procedural systems while continuing to build practical software that's meant to be used, not just admired.
How I build
Ownership in ambiguous projects
I step into ambiguous projects to move progress forward and improve systems that deliver real value to stakeholders.
Systems-first thinking
I prefer building end-to-end systems, focusing on the problem space, business needs, and how a system will evolve over time before writing code.
Simple code until complexity earns its place
I default to clean, maintainable solutions and introduce abstraction only when necessary, guided by an understanding of scope, scale, and direction.
Enable others through tooling
I translate vague or non-technical requirements into clear, buildable systems that help designers, artists, and stakeholders do their best work.
What I use
My previous roles
Verum Digital
- Various e-commerce, property management, and data migration projects. Contributed to established codebases, resolving issues and taking ownership of misaligned codebases to improve stability.
- Frontend and backend projects using React, NestJS, ExpressJS, and WordPress.
- Led and developed an end-to-end full-stack/Unity-based edutainment (education + entertainment) mobile game to teach Arabic to children, including a full backend service and frontend dashboard to track progress. Implemented an external in-app purchase flow, saving 30% on Google and Apple IAP commission fees.
Waxeye
- Various augmented reality and virtual reality projects, including game projects and unconventional solutions for bespoke clients.
- Implemented a game development build pipeline and related tooling to enable technical artists to iterate effectively.
- Contributed using Vue, JavaScript, and Three.js, and solved coordination and integration challenges between web development and game development teams to deliver an interactive 3D website for the New Zealand Pavilion at the World Trade Show in 2021.
- Coordinated and integrated technical solutions with 3D artists for interactive displays.
Titan Ideas
- Developed edutainment mobile applications for clients.
- Built custom VR and AR installations for holiday and special events around Auckland.
- Created an AR-based interactive storytelling app for a local cultural body using Unity and C#, implementing a dynamic content delivery system to enable weight development of additional content and overcome mobile app size constraints (AssetBundles on AWS).
- Developed an AR-based colouring book app that projected real coloured-in pages onto 3D models, bringing children's drawings to life.
Education
- Project-driven program combining engineering, design, and interactive media.
- Specialized in software engineering and game programming.
- Led and coordinated cross-disciplinary teams of artists, designers, and technical contributors.
- Integrated software, sensors, and UX design, optimizing real-time interaction and reliability under showcase conditions.
- Developed strong technical communication skills through pitching solutions and integrating stakeholder feedback.
- Final-year project featured in the Auckland Art Gallery (Hungry Pixels, digital art installation).
- For the master's program, developed a top-down shooter game featuring a procedural content generation system based on a novel genetic algorithm.
